You are wondering what you will do in your first month of a new job. A new job also brings a lot of stress so you expect to impress your new boss and make good with your colleagues to set the foundation for their time in office, and often set the tone for the years to come. Here are a few tips on how to make your mark at a new job in the first 30 days.
- Get to know your team better
It’s important to continue making new connections and allowing others to know you they were all newcomers to the office once, so they know exactly how you are feeling. They will be there for you so say hello and get to know them. Go to lunch if invited and chat in the kitchen, and events that take place outside of work can help give you a better understanding of what goes on at work. Spending time together creates a sense of trust. When you get to know each other on a personal level as well as their strengths can also improve communication and help with growing a successful and motivated team.
- Get organized and set good habits
This job is a fresh start and a good opportunity to get rid of old routines Organized people keep their spaces tidy by developing good organization habits that include productive daily and weekly routines. Take these first weeks to decide how you want to organize your calendar and to-do lists, how you’ll manage your time, and the skills or practices you want to develop. Create realistic goals. Focus less on the number of tasks to be completed and more on the quality of work that will get done.
- Create and learn your pitch
You are going to meet a lot of people in your first two weeks. Whenever we meet someone new, there’s a pleasant exchange of names and perhaps a handshake. In that time, create and perfect your elevator pitch on who you are and what you do. Everyone has their own unique story. Try to isolate what makes your unique, within 30 seconds –the person gets an understanding of you.
- Learn about the company’s culture
The first month on the job is often less busy so you should use wisely by learning as much as you can about the organization. That means going to any company cultural activities if there are any. Notice if people are expected to stay until 6 pm each day, or if hours are flexible so long as you get your job done. Learn who the real influencers are within your organization by reading the company’s annual report or watching previous presentations of your company’s CEO.
- Learn about your customers
Companies that know what their clients want and what they expect can also work on customizing the customer experience to create loyalty and repeat business. So, do what you can to learn about them as much as possible, as early as possible. Simply by extending the length of your customer’s interaction will provide a greater opportunity to create a positive experience and build a strong relationship. Listen to your customer’s feedback and provide sound advice, even if you have a clear understanding of their mindset and needs.
The first 30 days in a new job is the time when the company will make allowances and invest a lot of training time in you – you do not get that time again. So, using it wisely and believing in yourself are keys to succeeding in a new job. You will undoubtedly face frustrations and make mistakes as you’re adjusting.
